Under $25 : Vintage Kitchen

Despite not actually spending a lot of time in the kitchen, it's one of my favorite places in our humble little home. Really it's a favorite room in general. I love interior spaces, but I especially love kitchens. Maybe it's because that's where the food hides. Regardless, here's some lovely, affordable kitchen finds that would be sure to spruce up even the plainest of kitchens.

Mmm Summer

With the seemingly never-ending heat happening here in Atlanta for the past couple of weeks, it's hard to believe we've actually just tapped into summer. Despite the hot sticky sensation that comes along with the hottest of seasons, I'm in love with the warm nights, picnics in the park, juicy watermelon, refreshing swims, fireflies, and especially ice cream. One of mine and Brock's favorite recipes is green tea ice cream from the ultimate ice cream recipe book - David Lebovitz's The Perfect Scoop:

GREEN TEA ICE CREAM
Makes about 1 Quart (1 Liter)

1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup sugar
Pinch of salt
2 cups heavy cream
4 teaspoons matcha (green tea powder)
6 large egg yolks

Warm the milk, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan. Pour the cream into a large bowl and whisk in the green tea powder. Set a mesh strainer on top.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the egg yolks. Slowly pour the warm mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly, then scrape the warmed egg yolks back into the saucepan.
Stir the mixture constantly over medium hear with a heatproof spatula, scraping the bottom as you stir, until the mixture thickens and coats the spatula. Pour the custard through the strainer and stir it into the cream, then whisk it vigorously until the custard is frothy to dissolve the green tea powder. Stir until cool over an ice bath.
Chill the mixture thoroughly in the refrigerator, then freeze it in your ice cream maker according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Enjoy!

Camper Love

I just got back from my first mother-daughter trip with one of the sweetest ladies around, mi madre of course! We had a blast and although I haven't even been home 48 hours, my mind is already wandering about my next travel adventure. With one whole year until grad school begins, my sweet, Brock, and I have been throwing out destination ideas left and right. Spain? Tokyo? South America? But after checking out some of these amazing campers, I wouldn't mind hitting the open road right here and exploring the entire country (well, most of it).

Yarnage

My most recent works incorporate the use of yarn as an installation medium (stay tuned for pictures coming soon) and once again I've begun to dabble with embroidery in my drawings. I couldn't help but be inspired by some of these artists (not to mention love the feminist themes) :

Andrea Dezsoa Lessons From My Mother, 2006, 5" x 5" cotton and metallic floss embroidery on cotton fabric

Orly Cogan Fairy Tale, 2006, 94" x 80", mixed media

Orly Cogan Wonder of You, 2007, 49" x 49", mixed media

Megan Whitmarsh Giant Sculpture, 2007, 65” x 55”, embroidery thread on fabric

Françoise

It is nearly impossible not to fall in
love with Françoise Hardy.
If you are unfamiliar,
she was a popular French singer
circa the 1960s with great hair and
undeniable class.
And not to mention b-e-a-utiful.
